“Thanks for the good news!” Medieval Manuscripts Return to British Library’s Website

The British Library has delighted medieval enthusiasts by restoring access to its digitised manuscripts collection. After being offline for nearly a year due to a cyberattack last October, the first 1,000 manuscripts, many of which date from the Middle Ages, have now been returned to the website.

The British Library announced the news on their Medieval Manuscripts blog, where they highlighted some of the returning items. More manuscripts will be added as they work to rebuild what was once one of the most viewed databases of medieval imagery, which previously held over 4,500 manuscripts online.

They also note that this is only a temporary fix, as the current pages contain limited information and do not offer the ability to download images. Nevertheless, the return of these items has been met with appreciation online:
